I like going to work every day, doing my shifts and then coming back home, relaxing and having some free time

Yerro

Yerro left the Gambia in 2014, driven by heart problems that could not be treated in his country. After a long journey through the desert and Libya, he arrived in Italy and went through several reception centers until he built a life for himself in Sicily working in the fields. But the work he found was exploitation: years without a contract, different pay based on nationality, and social security contributions illegally demanded by the employer.

Thanks to the Integrated Social Hub, Yerro finally finds a listening ear and support. He denounces his exploiter and enters a path of protection and exit from labor violence. He studies, obtains his middle school diploma, and completes an internship that turns into a permanent contract as a gardener. Today he lives independently, goes to the gym, and dreams of reuniting with the woman who will soon be his wife. His is a journey toward freedom, built step by step through reclaimed rights.
